Woooaaaah there! That’s a pretty loaded question. There is a lot of misinformation that floats around in the general public regarding CBD oil (or CBD tinctures) and what it is. This post will attempt to dispel some of that misinformation.

In the most layman terms, CBD oil is an extract from hemp (or marijuana, depending on your laws) that contains cannabinoids that are cannabidiol (CBD) or derivatives of cannabidiol (such as CBDv or CBDa). CBD oil specifically has a THC content lower than .3% by law in the United States.

Many people seem to think that CBD oil is something that will make you high, especially among older folks. Once someone hears the term “cannabinoid” used in conjunction with CBD, if they are misinformed, they tend to think it is the same thing as weed or marijuana. At least that’s my experience working in other industries dominated by people 50+ before working with CBD. Being called a hippie by my 60-something coworkers was not uncommon when I simply mention I used CBD to calm my nerves or get better sleep.

While marijuana and hemp look like the same plant visually, green and with the iconic seven leafed stem, they are different in chemical composition.

Differences between THC and CBD

CBD, while it is found in marijuana, just like THC, it is not the part of the marijuana plant that grants psychoactive effects. THC is the compound associated with being “high”. THC, while it may prove to have its own beneficial effects, often creates a state of mind in certain users that can be uncomfortable or actually produce anxiety that they want relief from. For this reason, CBD oils have been a great boon to individuals looking for the beneficial effects that marijuana has come to be known for, but without the shift in thinking or without the potential impairments that may come with it. Many users claim that they have been able to successfully ween off of powerful opioids or mood stabilizers with the user of CBD oils and vape products.

All of the products Living Lotus CBD Co sells are guaranteed to be less than .3% THC. Therefore, the risk of being high or impaired is virtually zero. This makes it an ideal compound for use during work breaks, or in the morning as a replacement for a cup of coffee. Everything is independently lab tested for purity. For people looking for a high powered daily dosing regiment, our tinctures may be a great solution. For those looking for something that provides more of an immediate effect, our catalogue of CBD e-liquid and vape is available.

Unique to Living Lotus, you can also choose to mix your own unique flavor of CBD e-liquid. This is a service we are proud to offer and that you will find no where else. If you’re new to vaping we recommend you give our other article, Beginner’s Guide to Vaping CBD, a read. It’s comprehensive and comes with a table of contents.

Research is being done on the benefits of CBD. While there is a wealth of anecdotal information about its benefits, one thing that is certain is that is acts on the endocannabinoid system of the brain. The endocannabinoid system is part of the brain responsible for mood regulation, pain management, and is associated with our “fight or flight” response system. This is perhaps why CBD oil has managed to bring relief to so many people.

The future of CBD oils

Recently, the 2018 Farm Bill was passed in the United States. As part of this bill, hemp was made an agricultural commodity. This means that it is no more or less lawful to produce hemp as it is to produce corn or potatoes. Though, while it’s unlikely banks and other lawmakers will catch up anytime soon, we can be certain that we are moving in the right direction with the legality and accessibility of hemp derived CBD extracts and oils across the nation.

In time, I believe that cannabidiol will reach a mainstream demographic and be considered as useful or common as our morning coffee. Large shifts in public attitude occur when people are informed, and when the informed generation is older and capable of making sweeping, necessary changes towards a better future.

In the meantime, when you see corner shops, hair salons, gas stations, and some food markets selling CBD, you can be sure you are at least a bit more comfortable knowing what it is and why it’s there, and perhaps make an informed purchase. Just be sure that the brand you are purchasing from has lab results to back-up their potency! Many of the products you will find on Amazon or other retailers will claim they contain hemp extract, but in reality it’s just everyday cooking oil!
